Victoria Dickson, the Nollywood filmmaker who produced and stars in We Are Going to Ruin Each Other, has opened up about the inspiration behind the limited series and why she chose Instagram as its primary storytelling platform.

Speaking with The Nollywood Reporter (TNR), Dickson says the series was born from the reality that many people have, at some point, loved someone who was wrong for them.

“People have stayed longer than they should have or watched something beautiful turn into something damaging yet couldn’t leave. This series doesn’t judge any of that. It just puts it on screen, honestly and unapologetically,” she says.

Beyond its themes, We Are Going to Ruin Each Other embraces the emerging Instagram series format, a decision Dickson says reflects changing audience viewing habits.

We Are Going to Ruin Each Other tells the story of two imperfect lovers navigating their wrong choices of being together. It explores infidelity, manipulation, entitlement, betrayal, lust, and Stockholm syndrome..

“We are in a digital age where attention is currency. I’m a new producer, so I had to target where people’s attention exists the most. I want people to stop scrolling for a few minutes and feel like they have watched a full-blown Netflix series, but on Instagram,” she explains.

Discussing the production process, Dickson credits her collaboration with director and writer Olumide Kuti, known for Wura and Scratch, as instrumental to bringing the project to life.

“We started planning ahead as soon as we had the idea,” she says.

At its core, the series follows two lovers who seemingly have everything except the one thing that truly matters. Through themes of infidelity, manipulation, entitlement, betrayal, lust, and Stockholm syndrome, it examines how genuine love can become distorted in the wrong hands.

Produced under Victoria Dickson Productions and directed by Kuti, the limited series stars Dickson alongside Justice Ben, Sandra Iroegbu, and Boluwatife Adewunmi.

For Dickson, who is gradually expanding her career beyond acting, producing We Are Going to Ruin Each Other was also an opportunity to understand every stage of filmmaking, from developing an idea to bringing the finished story to the screen.
