“Ne Zha 2,” the sequel to the 2019 animated hit Ne Zha, has made history by grossing $1 billion at the Chinese box office.
The film is now the highest-grossing movie in China, surpassing “The Battle at Lake Changjin”. It also holds the record for the fastest film to reach $1 billion in a single market, beating “Avengers: Endgame”, which previously set the mark in 2019.
In just 10 days,” Ne Zha 2″ broke a record once held by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, which had the highest single-market box office total of $934 million in the U.S. This achievement makes” Ne Zha 2″ the first non-Hollywood film to cross the billion-dollar threshold.
Its predecessor, “Ne Zha”, earned $742.7 million in 2019, introducing a modern audience to the legendary Chinese mythological figure. With “Ne Zha 2” momentum, analysts predict it could challenge “Inside Out 2″ projected $1.7 billion total, potentially becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
As the film expands to international markets, experts speculate it could even reach the $2 billion mark, setting another unprecedented record for a non-Hollywood production.
