Showmax has confirmed that “Kabiyesi”, its upcoming Nigerian original epic drama series, will premiere on February 14, 2025, with new episodes released every Friday.
Inspired by the reign of Orompoto, the only female Alaafin of Oyo who ruled in the 16th century, the series delves into themes of tradition, ambition, and political intrigue.
The story follows Princess Aderiyife of Oyo-Ile, the only daughter of King Adegoke, who is set to marry Prince Obabamiji of Igboho.
However, a betrayal and a series of tragic events force her into a battle for power, challenging deep-seated traditions and fighting to secure her kingdom’s future. As enemies close in from all sides, she must make impossible choices that will determine not only her fate but also the survival of Oyo-Ile.
Led by showrunner Seyi Babatope, “Kabiyesi” features a cast that includes Annetta Adebusuyi as Princess Aderiyife, Akin Lewis as Oba Adegoke, Amokun Ibrahim as Prince Obabamiji, and Patrick Diabuah as the ambitious Bashorun. Oluwakemi Oladeojo, Olajide Ibitoye, Olanrewaju Ayanwale, Jibola Dabo, and Hauwa Angela Issa also star in the series.
Ahead of its premiere, Showmax has released a first-look trailer offering a glimpse into the drama, action, and cultural richness of “Kabiyesi”.
