Daniel Oriahi, the award-winning Nigerian director known for “The Weekend” and “Sylvia,” has officially wrapped production on his latest project, “Black Pepper.” Sharing photos from the set on April 21, Oriahi described the film as the most ambitious and fulfilling story he has worked on to date.

“Black Pepper” is a neo-noir film that tells the origin story of a female African superhero. According to Oriahi, the project aims to break new ground in the industry by exploring themes and styles rarely seen in Nollywood.

“After 21 gruelling days, and mostly nights of shooting, ‘Black Pepper’ is officially wrapped,” he wrote. “It’s a neo-noir, female African superhero origin story.”

The director also shared personal reflections on the challenges of making the film, revealing that he began principal photography just one day after the sudden death of his mother.

“This film was uniquely challenging,” he wrote. “They say grief shows up differently for everyone, but if I could hear her voice again, I know she’d be proud that I kept my chin up and pushed through. I dedicate this film to her memory, my forever real-life superhero.”

Oriahi also expressed gratitude to producer Chris Odeh for collaborating with him on the project and helping bring “Black Pepper” to life.
