The 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), held on May 10, has sparked online debate among fans, particularly around the wins of “Seven Doors” and “Lisabi: The Uprising.”

While “Lisabi: The Uprising” took home the award for Best Indigenous Language, some viewers have questioned whether Femi Adebayo’s “Seven Doors” was more deserving of that category. Social media commentary also compared “Lisabi” to Bolanle Austen-Peters’ “House of Ga’a,” which, despite receiving multiple nominations, left the ceremony without a win.

In contrast, the acting wins for “Seven Doors” were met with widespread approval. Femi Adebayo and Chioma Chukwuka earned Best Actor and Best Lead Actress, respectively—recognitions that many fans considered fitting.

As with previous editions, the AMVCA continues to generate post-event discussion from viewers and critics, especially around the competitive major categories.
