Toyin Abraham is set to headline “Iyalode”, a historical Nollywood drama slated for release on June 6, 2025, marking a sharp departure from her recent run of comedic roles.
Directed by Adebayo Tijani and produced by Kolawole Ajeyemi in partnership with FilmOne Studios, “Iyalode” follows Asabi Onile, a fearless warrior navigating justice, betrayal, and tradition in the fictional village of Kulende. As tensions rise, she must reclaim her destiny in a society fraught with power struggles and shifting loyalties.
Abraham takes on the lead in a performance that signals a deliberate shift in her screen persona, coming just months after her box office success with “Alakada: Bad and Boujee”. Unlike the upbeat tone of her previous outings, “Iyalode” positions her in a period drama that centers resistance and female agency.
The film features a strong ensemble cast that includes Bukky Wright, Kehinde Bankole, Gabriel Afolayan, Muyiwa Ademola, and Wale Ojo. Presented in Yoruba and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the project is part of a growing wave of Nollywood productions investing in larger-scale, culturally rooted storytelling.
With its blend of action, tradition, and character-led drama, “Iyalode” builds on the rising demand for women-led historical epics in Nigerian cinema.
