Kehinde Bankole Leads “Out in the Darkness,” Set for July Release
Nollywood actress Kehinde Bankole takes the lead in “Out in the Darkness,” the debut feature from filmmaker Sarah Kwaji, set to premiere in Nigerian cinemas on July 4, 2025.
Bankole stars as Bolu, a new mother grappling with postpartum depression. As haunting hallucinations push her toward the edge, her husband and mother struggle to protect her from herself.
The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Deyemi Okanlawon, Darasimi Nnadi, Bimbo Akintola, Tina Mba, Jide Kosoko, and Ronke Oshodi Oke.

“Out in the Darkness,” which was previously selected for the 2025 Oakville Film Festival and Nollywood Week Film Festival, aims to raise awareness about maternal mental health—a subject often underreported in Nigeria.
Produced by SSK Production and distributed by Genesis Pictures Nigeria, the psychological thriller addresses the stigma and silence surrounding postpartum depression.
