Directed by Afolabi Olalekan and produced by Blessing Uzzi, the AMVCA-winning film stars Mr Macaroni as a motorcyclist caught in a system of harsh policies.
“Freedom Way,” a thriller drama directed by Afolabi Olalekan, is set to hit cinemas nationwide on July 18, 2025. Produced by Blessing Uzzi under Bluhouse Studios, the film is distributed by Genesis Cinemas.
Written and produced by Uzzi, “Freedom Way” recently earned major accolades at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), where it won Best Film and Best Writing. It also screened at several international festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Red Sea International Film Festival, and Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it received a Special Jury Award.
Set in a tense socio-political climate, “Freedom Way” explores the ripple effects of public policy on ordinary citizens. The ensemble cast features Debo Adedayo (Mr Macaroni), Femi Jacobs, Bimbo Akintola, Mike Afolarin, Teniola Aladese, Jesse Suntele, Akin Lewis, Meg Otanwa, and others.
The trailer introduces Adedayo as Abiola, a motorcyclist grappling with the fallout of a government okada ban. His unexpected transformation raises broader questions about the consequences of policy, resistance, and survival.
“Freedom Way” marks Olalekan’s directorial debut and continues Uzzi’s commitment to socially conscious storytelling in Nollywood.
