The Shorts at Africa Film Society (AFS) program spotlights African and Diasporic short films in monthly screenings held in Ghana.
Nwaọ’s “Come Dance With Me” Joins AFS Short Film Lineup
Nwaọ’s “Come Dance With Me” is set to screen on July 26, 2025, at the Africa Film Society Theater in East Legon, Accra, Ghana, as part of the Shorts at AFS series.
Hosted by the Africa Film Society—a film theater, library, and exhibition space, the program curates notable short films by filmmakers from Africa and the diaspora.
Shorts at AFS launched in April 2025 with monthly screenings that will run through January 2026, ending with “Kati Kati.” The selections span genres including music, poetry, and experimental works, grouped thematically to showcase a range of creative expression.
Nwaọ’s “Come Dance With Me,” the only US/Nigerian selection in this edition, joins a lineup that includes “No Shoes Inside” by Sean Dendere, “Hiphop and Black Consciousness” by Yaw Asare, and “The Passage” by Ntokozo Mlaba. The film, which has previously screened at the 2025 International Queer Women of Color Film Festival and the International Black and Diversity Film Festival, explores dance within the Black diaspora, with a focus on gender, sexuality, and the experiences of marginalized communities.
The previous edition of the series featured “Dynamite” by Uche Aguh.
The Africa Film Society also offers membership options for regular attendees.
