In Nollywood, clothes are rarely just clothes. A costume can signal power, whisper vulnerability, or transform an ordinary moment into something unforgettable.
Fashion and costume designer Yolanda Okeke knows this well. In a recent Instagram post, she pointed out how some of Africa’s most exciting designers have played a quiet but pivotal role in shaping characters and storytelling on screen.

Their work isn’t limited to red carpets or glossy magazine covers; these designers bring depth to Nollywood films, using fabrics and and their craft to speak where words fall short.
Here are five designers whose creations have stood out on screen
Mai Atafo
