The film, led by Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, has already become one of 2025’s defining box office stories, grossing over ₦71.9 million in Nigeria during its record-breaking fourth weekend and securing a spot among the country’s all-time highest earners.

Internationally, Sinners has maintained momentum, with its mix of horror and social commentary drawing widespread critical praise.

The submission aligns with the film’s growing award-season profile. Jordan is expected to be in contention for Best Actor – Drama, while Coogler’s direction and the film’s overall craftsmanship have been singled out in early prediction lists.

Originally speculated to campaign in the Musical/Comedy category, the decision to position Sinners in Drama highlights the confidence of its backers in the film’s weightier themes and artistic ambition.

As nominations for the Golden Globes draw closer on December 8, 2025, industry watchers will be looking to see if Sinners can translate its commercial success and critical reception into awards recognition, possibly paving the way for an Oscar push.
