Gingerrr, a Nollywood heist thriller directed by Yemi Morafa, opened with ₦82.8 million at the Nigerian box office, setting a new record for a September release.
This marks a milestone for its executive producers — Wunmi Toriola, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (Kiekie), Bolaji Ogunmola, and Bisola Aiyeola — as Gingerrr is now the highest-grossing Nollywood September release of all time.
The film earned ₦78.9m on its opening day, before climbing to ₦82.8m by the end of the weekend, an additional ₦3.9m across Saturday and Sunday.
While Anderson’s film is performing strongly worldwide, it ranks second in Nigeria, followed by Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. While Anderson’s film is making waves globally, its dominating grip is yet to hold Nigerians.
Meanwhile, The Conjuring:Last Rites grossed N15.1 million to rise to a total of N138.9 million at the Nigerian box office. Akinola Davies’ acclaimed My Father’s Shadow holds sixth place with a total of N16.8 million in two weeks.
As Gingerr begins its second week in Nigerian cinemas, time will tell if it will surpass the N100 million mark or not.
