The American singer-songwriter has broken another Spotify record with the release of her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.

The album earned 249.9 million streams in a single day on Spotify, making it the most-streamed album in a single day in 2025 so far.

It dethrones the previous record holder, Man’s Best Friend by Sabrina Carpenter, which reigned from August to October with 65 million streams.

Notably, The Life of a Showgirl now stands as the second-biggest debut of all time on Spotify—just behind Swift’s own The Tortured Poets Department, which earned 314 million on its first day of release on April 19, 2024. It surpasses Midnights with 186 million and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) with 176 million. Collectively, these albums make Swift the artiste with the four biggest album debuts of all time on Spotify.

Among female artistes, The Life of a Showgirl further solidifies Swift’s dominance as she now holds seven spots on the list of the biggest album debuts on Spotify: The Tortured Poets Department, The Life of a Showgirl, Midnights, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), and Folklore.

The album’s lead single, The Fate of Ophelia, also earned 30.98 million streams on release day, making it the biggest debut song in Spotify history. If the track continues to dominate the platform, it could dethrone Miley Cyrus’s Grammy-winning hit Flowers as the most-streamed song in a single week.

All twelve songs on The Life of a Showgirl have surpassed 15 million streams each—earning Swift yet another record as the artiste with the top 19 biggest debut songs of all time on Spotify: 12 from The Life of a Showgirl, five from The Tortured Poets Department, and two from Midnights.

With such numbers, the album is poised to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart after a full week of ttracking. It could even spend multiple weeks at the top if its momentum continues. All songs from the album are also projected to dominate the entire top twelve spots on the Billboard Hot 100. If achieved, this would mark Swift’s third time occupying the entire Billboard Hot 100 top ten—previously accomplished in 2022 with Midnights and in 2024 with The Tortured Poets Department. This will be a feat no other artiste in history has ever achieved.

Despite limited pre-release promotion—Swift did not drop any singles beforehand—she teased fans with burlesque-inspired promotional imagery that positioned the album as a dreamy, theatrical experience.

She also hosted an exclusive launch event and released a companion film, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, which premiered in over 100 countries on the same day as the album. So far, The Life of a Showgirl has received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics.
