Taylor Swift’s latest event film The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, inspired by her new album The Life of a Showgirl, made a strong global debut, earning $46 million in its opening weekend.

According to Deadline, the film grossed $34 million from 3,702 theaters in the United States, making it the second-highest opening for a musical documentary—surpassed only by Swift’s 2023 concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which opened with $93.2 million.

By comparison, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never opened with $29.5 million in 2011, Michael Jackson’s This Is It with $23.3 million in 2009, and Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé with $21.8 million in 2023.

The release came amid competition from Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another and Warner Bros.’ The Conjuring: Last Rites, both of which continue to perform well. Industry analysts noted that Showgirl was heavily front-loaded, with attendance dropping after its opening day—a typical trend for event-style films.

Internationally, the film collected an additional $13 million from limited markets, bringing its worldwide total to $46 million. It is expected to leave IMAX and premium large-format screens this week to make way for Disney’s Tron: Ares.
