Attendance for the 2025 Nigeria Cinema Day, organized by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), increased by 5% compared to last year, according to early data released by the Nigerian Box Office on X (formerly Twitter).

The report revealed that, despite a 100% hike in the discounted ticket pricefrom ₦1,000 in 2024 to ₦2,000 in 2025, the event recorded higher attendance and box office earnings. Official figures are yet to be released, but this year’s turnout surpassed the 16,500 tickets sold in 2024.

Among both local and international titles screened for Cinema Day, The Herd and Gingerrr emerged as top performers, with Gingerrr once again setting a new record. The Nollywood thriller starring Shaffy Bello achieved the highest ticket sales of the day, surpassing previous records set by Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024 and The Equalizer 3 in 2023.

The preliminary statistics suggest sustained audience support for Nollywood and a growing preference for locally produced stories in Nigerian cinemas.
