The first look at Michael, the highly anticipated biopic chronicling the life and legacy of the late global icon Michael Jackson, has shattered records with 116.2 million views worldwide in its first 24 hours making it the most-viewed trailer for any music biopic in history.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, the film stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s real-life nephew, as the King of Pop. Lionsgate, which released the trailer, confirmed that the milestone marks the studio’s largest trailer launch to date.
Within six hours of release, Michael had already surpassed 30 million views across social media platforms. Its 116.2 million total ranks above other major music or concert films, including Taylor Swift: Eras Tour (96.1 million), Bob Marley: One Love (60.1 million), Bohemian Rhapsody (57.6 million), and A Complete Unknown (47.2 million).
The teaser offers glimpses into Jackson’s life from his early days with the Jackson Five to his record-breaking solo career capturing his electrifying stage presence with recreations of iconic performances, including Thriller, set to the beat of Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.

The film’s ensemble cast includes Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Jessica Sula as LaToya Jackson, Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Miles Teller as John Branca, and Kat Graham as Diana Ross. Additional appearances feature Liv Symone as Gladys Knight, Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark, KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Bill Bray, and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones.
Produced by John Branca, Graham King, and John McClain, Michael aims to portray both the triumphs and controversies of Jackson’s life, exploring his creative genius, personal struggles, and enduring cultural impact. The official synopsis describes it as a story “beyond the music,” offering audiences a deeper look into the man behind the legend.
Originally slated for release in October 2025, Michael is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 24, 2026. Lionsgate has also confirmed that a second part is already in development.
