Veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, who has long been associated with intense or ritualistic roles in Nollywood, is stepping into a new lighthearted character in Grandpa Must Obey.
The film, produced by Trino Motion Pictures, behind the acclaimed The Weekend is written by Saviour Bob Kings and directed by Chinuzor Afurobi.
Set in Lagos, the story follows Kanayo’s character, a 70-year-old stubborn grandfather grappling with grief while caring for his mischievous grandchildren. His journey through familial chaos teaches him obedience, patience, and ultimately, the power of forgiveness.
The film also stars Bimbo Akintola, Elvina Ibru, Brutus Richard, Yvonne Jegede, Darasimi Nadi, and Fiyin Asenuga. It blends comedy, love, and family drama to highlight intergenerational bonds and the importance of reconciliation.
Produced by Uche Okocha, Managing Director of Trino Motion Pictures, Grandpa Must Obey marks a departure from Kanayo’s usual roles, giving audiences a chance to see the veteran actor explore warmth, humor, and emotional depth in a family-centered story.
Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, Grandpa Must Obey is scheduled to hit Nigerian cinemas on November 21, 2025
