The Great Flood, a South Korean science fiction disaster film, is set for global release on Netflix on December 19, 2025.
Co-written and directed by Kim Byung-woo, the film centres on what is believed to be humanity’s final day, unfolding within a flooded apartment complex where survival becomes increasingly uncertain. As rising waters threaten to erase all hope, the story narrows into a tense struggle that may determine the fate of humanity.
The film stars Kim Da-mi and Park Hae-soo in lead roles. Kim plays Gu An-na, a woman forced to confront impossible choices as she fights to save a child amid the disaster. The cast also includes Kang Bin, Kwon Eun-seong, Jeon Yu-na, and Eun Su.
Produced by Chun Roy-kyoung under Hwansang Studios, The Great Flood was filmed over six months. The project previously screened at the Busan International Film Festival, where it premiered in the Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere section.
Drawing inspiration from Biblical and mythological flood narratives, including the story of Noah’s Ark, the film reframes these ancient themes through a contemporary lens, focusing on desperation, sacrifice, and the instinct to survive at all costs.
The Great Flood will be available for global streaming on Netflix from December 19.
