Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has announced January 30, 2026, as the release date for the second season of his epic Netflix series, Anikulapo. The announcement was made via his official Instagram page.
The upcoming season continues the Anikulapo franchise, which began as a feature film released on Netflix in September 2022. The first season of the series, titled Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, premiered in March 2024.
Sharing the update with fans, Afolayan confirmed that the new season will debut on Netflix Nigeria. “Anikulapo series Season 2 coming on January 30 on Netflix. Are you ready?” he wrote.
Returning cast members include Sola Sobowale, Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Oyindamola Sanni, Aisha Lawal, Moji Afolayan, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Taiwo Hassan, and Lateef Adedimeji.
New additions to the cast include Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (KieKie), Teniola Aladese, Antar Laniyan, Joke Muyiwa, Saidi Balogun, Adeoluwa Okusaga (Saga), and Tayo Faniran.
Production for Season 2 extends beyond the Kunle Afolayan Film Village and Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State, to Cape Coast, Ghana. The move follows a collaboration between KAP Motion Pictures and Ghana’s National Film Authority under the “Shoot in Ghana” initiative.
The first season followed Saro, a traveller resurrected from the afterlife and gifted a powerful amulet by the Messenger of Death. His mission becomes complicated by love, betrayal, and escalating power struggles within the kingdom.
Season 2 is expected to build on these conflicts, further exploring themes of destiny, vengeance, and the consequences of power as the story expands across borders.
