After a six-week theatrical run, Oversabi Aunty, Toyin Abraham’s first film as a director, has finally crossed the N1 billion mark at the Nigerian Box Office, fulfilling her envisioned dream.

This comes barely a week after the Nollywood comedy drama, grossed over N951.1 million to close in on the N1 billion milestone. With over 50 million additional earnings this week, it has now grossed a total of N1, 017, 201, 953.

Abraham shared the recent box office earnings of her cinematic triumph, which emerged as the fourth highest grossing Nigerian movie of all time and the first Nollywood directorial debut to reach the historic one billion mark.

With her recent milestone, Abraham, who envisioned the success, shares the Nollywood box office billionaire spot with Funke Akindele.

Toyin Abraham fulfilled her long-held dream with the success of her comedy drama, Oversabi Aunty starring Mike Ezuruonye, which surpassed the N1 billion box office mark.

Beyond the box office success, Abraham’s milestone also represents the expanding economic credibility of Nollywood, which positions crossing the N1 billion mark as both a standard and a possibility for both established and aspiring filmmakers.

The film starring Abraham, Mike Ezuruonye, Efe Irele, Tana Adelana, Enioluwa Adeoluwa and Queen Nwokoye, follows an overzealous usher whose intrusive attempt to fix other people’s children backfires on her family, forcing her to face the consequences of her religious fervour.

As fans and colleagues alike celebrate the historic success, Oversabi Aunty reaffirmed how local Nollywood stories, when produced and strategically promoted, can achieve remarkable reach and influence, increasing the economic value of the industry.
