After years of delays, Sherlock Holmes 3 is reportedly moving forward, with development underway on the long-anticipated third instalment of the franchise based on the fictional detective created by Arthur Conan Doyle.
According to an update shared by Hollywood industry insider Daniel Richtman on X, formerly Twitter, Robert Downey Jr. is expected to reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes, continuing his run as the titular character.
Warner Bros., the studio behind the franchise, first confirmed plans for a third film in 2011. Subsequent updates over the years, including comments from producer Susan Downey in 2014, suggested that the project remained in development.

Despite these confirmations, progress on the film stalled for years, largely due to script development challenges and changes within the creative team.
With the latest report indicating Downey Jr.’s return, Sherlock Holmes 3 appears to be edging closer to production, renewing expectations that the long-delayed sequel may finally move forward.
