Leo Obienyi’s cinema debut Alive Till Dawn has recorded a ₦20.2 million opening weekend at the box office, making it the biggest opening for a Nollywood horror film in 2026.
Directed by Sulaiman Omotola Ogegbo, the film also emerged as the highest-grossing new Nollywood release of the weekend and the strongest opening for any Nigerian title released this year.
Uzor Arukwe, who stars in the film and also serves as co-producer, shared the update on social media, thanking audiences in Nigeria and Ghana for their support. “We set out to tell a bold and thrilling story, and you turned it into a major milestone for us,” he wrote.

Alive Till Dawn stars Arukwe alongside Sunshine Rosman, Chisom Agoawuike, Sani Muazu, and Michael Dappa. The film explores a zombie outbreak from a Nigerian perspective, following a police officer, former prisoners, and a stranded woman forced to work together to survive the night.
According to recent Nigerian Box Office data, the film’s opening weekend surpassed Everything Is New Again, which debuted with ₦12.9 million, by over 30 percent despite being released within a similar period.
As one of the few Nollywood titles attempting the zombie horror genre, Alive Till Dawn enters cinemas with an ensemble cast and an unconventional narrative approach, positioning it as a notable entry in the year’s box office performance.
