Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor has joined Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist, alongside Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, and Diane Lane for the film’s release set for March 12, 2027.
This marks Ejiofor’s second collaboration with Flanagan, following their 2024 film The Life of Chuck, and represents his entry into Flanagan’s new take on the iconic horror classic which won the 1974 Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Sound. It was even nominated in the Best Picture category.
According to Variety, Flanagan’s adaptation is described as an entirely new story set within The Exorcist universe rather than a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, drawing inspiration from the 1973 William Friedkin masterpiece that followed a mother’s desperate attempt to save her demonically possessed daughter through the help of two Catholic priests.
The film, which is produced by David Robinson, Jason Blum and Flanagan while Alexandra Magistro and Ryan Turek serve as executive producers is now in the production phase.
