Organisers of the Cannes Film Festival have confirmed that the official selections for the festival’s 79th edition will be unveiled on April 9, 2026, during a press conference in Paris, France.
Cannes Delegate General Thierry Frémaux and festival president Iris Knobloch are expected to preside over the announcement, which traditionally reveals the films competing across the festival’s major sections.
The announcement follows the recent appointment of South Korean director Park Chan-wook as jury president for the 2026 edition. Park, known for films including Oldboy, No Other Choice, and Parasite, will lead the festival jury alongside members yet to be announced.

Expectations are high for the upcoming lineup following a notable moment at the 2025 festival. During the 78th edition, Akinola Davies Jr.’s debut feature My Father’s Shadow became the first Nigerian film to premiere at Cannes.
The 2026 Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 12 to May 23, drawing filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals from around the world.
