The drama, which premiered in cinemas on December 12, 2025, became the fastest Nollywood title to cross the ₦1 billion mark at the West African box office, reaching the milestone in 19 days. It has since grossed over ₦1.1 billion.
The film follows Aderonke “Ronky-Fella” Faniran, played by Scarlet Gomez, a successful real estate entrepreneur whose generosity begins to take a toll on her personal life. As demands from family, friends, and associates increase, she is forced to confront the consequences of her choices and set boundaries.
The cast includes Iyabo Ojo, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe, Destiny Etiko, Uche Montana, Debo Adebowale, Ini Dima-Okojie, and Ibrahim Chatta, with Akindele also appearing in a supporting role. The film was co-directed by Akindele and Tunde Olaoye, and produced alongside Wendy Uwadiae Imasuen.
Beyond Nigeria, Behind The Scenes has recorded notable performances in other markets. It is among the few West African titles to cross the ₦2.7 billion mark at the box office and currently holds the record for the highest-grossing Nollywood release in North America, earning $259,000.
FilmOne NG, the film’s distributor, described its theatrical run as a significant moment for African cinema, pointing to its commercial success across multiple territories.
The Netflix release adds to Akindele’s growing presence on streaming platforms. Her previous titles, including Everybody Loves Jenifa, She Must Be Obeyed, A Tribe Called Judah, Battle on Buka Street, and Finding Me, have all been released on Prime Video.
