Nigerian filmmaker Damilare Olalude, now based in Finland, has completed production on Cross Paths, a short film exploring healing, resilience, and the search for belonging.
The project brings together a volunteer-driven team and a largely first-time cast drawn from the African community in Finland, particularly Nigerian actors. Cast members include Maureen Ekwe, Mayowa Oguntoyinbo, Temilola Oriyomi, and Tiina Sahlman.
The film was developed outside traditional industry structures and completed principal photography over the course of a year through grassroots collaboration. Support came from the Director of Photography, local brands, and community contributors.
Despite its independent structure, Cross Paths received institutional backing from the City of Kuopio. The film is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2026 at Kuvakukko cinema, where it is expected to screen to an audience of over 300 people.
Post-production is currently underway as the project moves toward festival consideration and local audience engagement in Finland.
The film positions itself as a cultural bridge between African storytelling traditions and a Nordic production environment, shaped by its diverse cast and collaborative process.
Olalude described the experience of making the film as deeply fulfilling.
“Working with first-time actors from the African community gave the project its heart and authenticity,” he said.
