Asake “Flaunts” His Mother Tongue on Foreign Interview

Make no mistake, Asake is the hottest voice on the streets and global highways of Nigerian music and Afrobeats.

His quick rise to success is hinged on several factors. One which can’t be disassociated is his proud display of the Yoruba language in his music.

To be clear, Asake isn’t the first Nigerian artist to infuse indigenous language into mainstream music. Artists before him have done that groundwork. But what sets him apart is scale. Few have carried this level of “Yorubaness” so boldly into global spaces without dilution.

Anyone pleading proof need only look a clip from his recent interview with Flaunt Magazine on how

he balances instinct with structure while creating, our dear 31-year-old replied with:

“Naturally im someone who is confident. i just follow my instinct in my work. Im very intentional with everything so i think it shows in my music too because whenever i do anything i really want people to tell me ive done well & whenever we are about to start something, i first ensure we have a solid foundation and we are well prepared, so when people show up it can flow naturally.”

Only, of course, doing so mostly in Yoruba.

The results speak for themselves. Asake released M$NEY (his fourth studio album) on May 1, 2026 and is only poised to be the biggest first-week streaming debut on Spotify Nigeria with over 40 million streams.
