King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos, Adebayo Tijani's latest historical epic, is set to premiere in cinemas on Aug. 28, bringing the story of 19th-century Lagos ruler Oba Kosoko to the big screen.
The film traces the rise, reign, and resistance of the Yoruba monarch, exploring the political struggles that shaped Lagos during a defining period in its history.
Femi Adebayo stars in the title role, leading an ensemble cast that includes Odunlade Adekola, Femi Branch, Jide Kosoko, Gabriel Afolayan, Taiwo Hassan, Tina Mba, and Yinka Quadri.
At its core, King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos examines themes of power, leadership, legacy, and resistance through the story of one of Lagos' most influential and controversial rulers.
The film joins a growing slate of Nigerian historical dramas, including Efunroye: The Unicorn (2026) and House of Ga'a (2024), reflecting Nollywood's continued interest in bringing African history and notable historical figures to contemporary audiences.
Produced by Ayo Ajayi and Segun Olojo Kosoko under Teqsus Studios, the film will be distributed nationwide by FilmOne Entertainment.
