Sweet 16, the upcoming family drama written and directed by Willis Ikedum, is set to premiere in cinemas on August 14, marking the final completed film of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.
The film follows a privileged teenage girl whose lavish 16th birthday celebration takes an unexpected turn after she uncovers shocking secrets about her parents.
Blending comedy and drama, Sweet 16 explores family, identity, and the complexities of growing up as its young protagonist navigates a life-changing transition into adulthood.
Alongside Ekubo, the film features Kalu Ikeagwu, Uche Jombo, Mercy Aigbe, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, Denrele Edun, Yemi Alade, Julius Agwu, Angel Unigwe, Ikechukwu Onunaku, and Broda Shaggi.

The supporting cast also includes Eronini Osinachim, Adebolu Ezikpe, Daniel Nnwoka (Dee Humourous), Longinus Anokwute (Chief Imo), and Eriobuna Onyeka Theresa.
For Ikedum, an award-winning filmmaker whose previous works have screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival, Sweet 16 also marks his final collaboration with Ekubo following A Perfect Day (2017) and Switch (2018).
Produced by Wheels Pictures, Sweet 16 will be distributed nationwide by FilmOne Entertainment.
