Nigerian writer-director Omotoke Solarin-Sodara is set to debut The Mysterious Death of Funke Lawson, an immersive murder mystery, in Lagos on September 26, 2026.

Created by Solarin-Sodara and Nnamdi Ehirim, the stage play follows Funke Lawson, who is found dead after being shot twice in the heart.

As questions surrounding her daughter’s death mount, Funke’s mother takes matters into her own hands, armed with a loaded gun and determined to uncover the truth.

Her investigation leads her to Funke’s four closest friends, each of whom appears to know more about the circumstances surrounding the death than they are willing to reveal.

Omotoke Solarin-Sodara writes, directs and edits. She is best known for The Ministry of Good People and You Are The Problem. Through Niyi Akinmolayan’s Immersia by Anthill, she has worked on shows including The Princess and The Pirate, Valley of Hidden Treasures, Holy Ghosting and The Forest of Talking Drums. She is expected to debut The Mysterious Death of Funke Lawson in September 2026.

The play marks Solarin-Sodara’s follow-up to Holy Ghosting, her previous immersive theatrical production created in collaboration with Immersia. While Holy Ghosting centred on fraud, The Mysterious Death of Funke Lawson shifts into the murder mystery genre while retaining the immersive format shared by both productions.

The interactive production explores death, secrecy and the lengths people may go to in pursuit of the truth.

The Mysterious Death of Funke Lawson will make its official debut in Lagos on September 26, 2026.
