Stellar director and arguably the king of Nigerian period films, Izu Ojukwu is back again with yet another drama that will be made available for streaming on the global platform Amazon Prime Video. 4:4:44 (pronounced as Four Four Forty-Four) is set in the 1940s and chronicles the tale of a loved-up couple whose lives change after a disturbing event on their wedding night. As they navigate their way through the storm, they must confront their past demons, the ills of social prejudice, and the stigma associated with mental health. All these vow to tear their love apart, but with challenges come strength and an unbreakable bond between the couple. It is inspired by true events.
Nollywood veterans Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) and Nse Ikpe-Etim lead a stellar lineup of actors that include Segun Akindele, Ali Baba, Efe Irele, Chiwetalu Agu, Blessing Onwukwe, Shan George and Eric Amderse. Broda Shaggi and Teni the Entertainment will make guest appearances.
Ojukwu teamed up with producer Winifred Mena-Ajakpovi to bring this project to life. In a statement to the press, she expressed her joy at seeing this story being put on a platform as big as Amazon Prime Video: “My team and I poured our heart and soul into the making of this film, to honor a story so dear to me and live up to the responsibility the project itself placed on us.”
Ever since their arrival in Nigeria in August 2022, Amazon Prime Video has been dedicated to its pursuit of showcasing local content to its African and global audience. They have signed exclusive licensing deals with Nigerian studios such as Inkblot Productions and Anthills Studios to release their previous theatrical runs and are also giving independent filmmakers a chance to shine with Prime Video Direct.
Though no official date has been released, 4:4:44 will be available for global streaming in November 2022.
