SAFTA Unveils 2023 Nominees, And Tshedza Pictures Dominates with “The River” and “Legacy”

Viewers can cast their votes for the Best TV Presenter and Most Popular Telenovela or Soap using codes provided through the SAFTAs’ social media platforms and the NFVF website through Sept. 27.

The nominees for the 17th Annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) have been unveiled with Tshedza Pictures’ productions, “The River” and “Legacy” emerging as dominant contenders, securing nominations in 11 categories each for the coveted TV Telenovela and Soap Awards. The event will take place on September 29 and 30, 2023, in Johannesburg.

 

This year introduces two new telenovelas, “Diepe Waters” and “The Blackdoor,” both making a substantial impact with six and five nominations respectively. The nominations span a diverse range of genres and categories, underscoring the rich tapestry of content within the industry.

 

Presenters at SAFTAs Nomination reveal

Noteworthy among the nominees are the commendable achievements of KAE, with three of their projects securing a total of eight nominations. Notably, “Wild Is The Wind” achieved recognition across various categories including Best Editing, Best Scriptwriting, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Film. Similarly, “The Umbrella Men” and “Ubettina Wethu Season 2” received nominations for Best Scriptwriting and Best Actor in a TV drama respectively, further illuminating the production company’s dedication to excellence.

 

The SAFTAs’ commitment to public participation remains evident, exemplified by categories such as Best TV Presenter and Most Popular Telenovela or Soap, where audience voting will play a significant role in determining the winners. From August 10 to September 27, 2023, viewers can cast their votes using codes provided through the SAFTAs’ social media platforms and the NFVF website, ensuring an inclusive and engaging process.

 

Ready for a ride of a lifetime

The SAFTA Craft and Main Awards ceremonies are poised to be a grand celebration of the industry’s achievements. The events will be streamed live on the Saftas YouTube channel on September 29, with subsequent rebroadcasts on SABC channels. Furthermore, the Main Awards will receive simultaneous coverage on DSTV channels 161 (Mzansi Magic) and S3 (SABC 3) on September 30, 2023, starting at 19:00.
