“Praise Party” Dives Deep into Real-Life Struggles

“Praise Party,” a family-themed film, is set to hit the big screen on Nov. 10 with an engaging narrative that transcends cultural boundaries.

Produced by Brampton Productions in partnership with RevAnuli Inc., “Praise Party” confronts real-life problems that many African families grapple with but often keep hidden. Blending elements of drama and psychological thriller, it offers a cinematic experience that will challenge certain perceptions.

The narrative revolves around Tobe Thompson, a character riddled with narcissistic tendencies that strain his relationship with his wife, Zara Thompson. The film unflinchingly addresses issues such as unresolved childhood trauma, privilege, and injustice, shedding light on the emotional abuse and social stigma experienced by Zara in the face of marital breakdown and infertility.

It explores the intricate dynamics of mental and emotional trauma, all against the backdrop of Nigeria’s vibrant culture. At its core, the film underscores the significance of community, seeking professional help, and the therapeutic power of faith, courage, and forgiveness.

Directed by the U.S.-based talent Obi Martins, the film brings together a stellar cast that includes Kunle Remi, Keppy Ekpenyong, Bayray Nwizu, Tina Mba, Sola Fosudo, Chioma Nwosu, Arinze Okonkwo, and more.

The film’s international acclaim precedes its release, with a win at the Charlotte Black Film Festival for “Best International Film.” It also graced the opening weekend of the Canada China International Film Festival in Montreal, where it earned recognition. Anuli Ajagu, the driving force behind “Praise Party,” was honored with the “Best Producer” award at the CCIFF closing gala.

The film will also be screened in Canada and the United States.
