“Magenta Coal” Star, RMD Reflects on Second Collaboration With South Africa, Hints at Season Two

Renowned Nigerian actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, widely known as RMD, recently shared captivating details about his involvement in the South African hit series “Magenta Coal,” marking his second collaboration with South African filmmakers.
In an exclusive interview with The Nollywood Reporter (TNR), RMD opened up about the unique circumstances that led to his pivotal role in “Magenta Coal,” stating, “This marks my second collaboration with South Africans, following the movie “Critical Assignment” and now, this series, “Magenta Coal.””
Acknowledging the enigmatic casting process, RMD candidly admitted, “To be honest, I don’t know how I caught the role, but the producer Elvis Chucks, an admirer of my work, sought to inject a Nigerian essence into the story, and he picked me for it.”
The narrative woven into “Magenta Coal” is a tapestry of family dynamics, intense drama, and the complex world of mining magnates overseeing South Africa’s largest coal mine. RMD’s character, Muzi, is Matilda’s antagonist as she takes center stage in her pursuit of wealth that unravels unforeseen twists, creating a spellbinding viewing experience for audiences globally.
Reflecting on his experience working on the project, RMD shared, “It was an enjoyable venture, providing an opportunity to connect with many of their stars and reunite with Adze Ugar, my director in ’10 Days in Sun City,’ also shot in South Africa.”
As the curtain fell on “Magenta Coal” Season One, the series concluded on a crescendo of success. RMD, joined by the cast and the producer, now eagerly anticipates the prospect of a second season. “Well, I’m like all the other cast members and the producer, looking forward to season two. Season one ended on a very high note, and hopefully, the demand would earn us a second season. Fingers crossed,” expressed RMD.
Offering an enticing hint of what viewers can expect in the next chapter, RMD teased, “Oh yes, there was an invasion in my character’s sitting room, setting the stage for a massive comeback for season 2.”
“Magenta Coal” made its debut on Netflix on October 27, 2023, and boasts an ensemble cast, including Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Desmond Dube, Nambitha Mpumlwana, Connie Chiume, Vusi Kunene, and others.
