HBO has revealed the rollout plan for the upcoming second season of its hit fantasy series “House of the Dragon.” Following the premiere date announcement of June 16, the network has now shared the specific release schedule for all eight episodes.
Unlike Season 1 which had 10 episodes, the second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel will be slightly shorter, consisting of 8 episodes. New episodes will air weekly on Sundays across HBO’s platforms on the following dates:
Episode 1: June 16
Episode 2: June 23
Episode 3: June 30
Episode 4: July 7
Episode 5: July 14
Episode 6: July 21
Episode 7: July 28
Episode 8: August 4
While episode titles have not been officially unveiled yet, speculation suggests the season premiere on June 16 could be titled “A Son for a Son” based on narrative hints from the source material, George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire and Blood.”
Plot details for Season 2 remain tightly under wraps, but it’s expected to pick up directly after the shocking finale of Season 1 which saw the tragic death of one of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen’s sons, igniting the spark for the infamous Targaryen civil war depicted in the prequel series.
Set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” “House of the Dragon” explores the once all-powerful dragon-lords of Old Valyria during their dwindling reign over the Seven Kingdoms. The star-studded cast includes Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke and more.
As fans eagerly await Season 2, the weekly release cadence will likely build anticipation and online discourse in a similar fashion to previous hit HBO series like “Game of Thrones” and “Succession.” The new season begins June 16 on HBO and streaming service Max.
