Tiwa Savage Ventures into Acting with “Water and Garri”

The day marks a pivotal moment for music icon Tiwa Savage as she ventures into the world of filmmaking with the premiere of her debut feature, “Water and Garri.”

The drama, which the singer co-directed with acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Meji Alabi, promises to showcase Savage’s artistry in a bold new light.

Inspired by Savage’s own 2021 EP of the same name, “Water and Garri” centers on the character of Aisha, played by the singer herself. After a decade spent building a successful fashion design career in America, Aisha returns to her small Nigerian hometown, where she must confront the lingering trauma and guilt over abandoning her community.

As Aisha reconnects with her family, childhood friends, and past relationships, the film delves into the emotional complexities of homecoming, self-discovery, and the weight of one’s past choices.

Joining Savage in the cast are a talented ensemble including Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemimah Osunde.
