The hit Prime Video series “Beyond the Veil” has been renewed for a second season that will continue exploring the multifaceted lives of five Northern Nigerian women juggling careers, friendships and romances in the modern world. The second season of the critically acclaimed drama will debut June 7 on the streaming platform.
It picks up after the first season that challenged stereotypes by spotlighting the strength, independence and authenticity of its central characters, played by Jemima Osunde, Norah Ego, Ame Aiyejina, Habiba Zock-Sock and Maryam Booth.
“In Season 1, we introduced our characters and challenged stereotypes, setting the stage for their character development,” showrunner Nadine Ibrahim said. “In Season 2, the actors embody these multifaceted characters with raw emotions and depths. We embrace imperfections and vulnerabilities, guiding our characters to find strength and resilience through their darkest moments.”
Created by Sifa Asani Gowon and Ibrahim, “Beyond the Veil” has developed a dedicated fan base since its premiere by providing an alternative portrayal of Northern Nigerian women. The series has been praised for breaking barriers and shedding light on the diverse narratives within the region.
“I am immensely proud of our work on this series. I hope it resonates with audiences worldwide,” said Nadine Ibrahim, the British-Nigerian filmmaker behind production company Naila Media.
The new season renewal comes as Prime Video continues to expand its content offerings, with “Beyond the Veil” expected to build on its success showcasing underrepresented voices and cultures.
