“Offshoot,” directed by T. Steve Ayeny and distributed by Cinemax, promises a gritty, ripped-from-the-headlines thriller of one woman’s war against a dangerous drug cartel.

The film stars Kehinde Bankole as Modesire Mbakwe, a newly appointed director of the Nigerian Drugs Agency (NDA). When Mbakwe launches an aggressive crackdown on a major cartel’s operations, she uncovers a shocking family secret that forever changes her life.

Written by Temitope Bolade and Diche Enunwa, “Offshoot” explores the harsh realities and personal tolls of the drug trade through the lens of Mbakwe’s operatives at the NDA. The drama is produced by Oluwatoyin Adewumi and Benjamin Abejide Adeniran.

Joining Bankole in the ensemble cast are Kelechi Udegbe, Ibrahim Suleiman, David Jones David, Gregory Ojefua, Bimbo Manuel, Tomiwa Sage, and Princess Nwogu.

With its realistic action set pieces and dramatic family saga, “Offshoot” aims to be a can’t-miss theatrical event tackling relevant social issues when it blazes into Nigerian cinemas on Jun. 14.
