Popular dancer and content creator, Anita Obidi, popularly known as Korra Obidi, has delivered a defiant response to critics with her latest music video released on May 17.
In the two-minute and twenty-seven-second video, titled “Break Me Throwaway,” Korra emotionally professes the age-long and deep-rooted love of a mother for her children, emphasizing the lengths she would go to protect and provide for them.
She passionately sings, “I fight for what is mine / I fight for my pikin / and I fight for my baby.”
While Korra does not explicitly mention his name or include his image, the song is widely interpreted as a message to her ex-husband, Justin Dean, with pointed lyrics like “You no go fit to chase me away / You no fit to break me throwaway.”
“Break Me Throwaway” comes amidst troubled times for the singer-dancer. Korra was recently sued by her ex-husband for using pictures and videos of their daughters for social media content. In response, Korra reached out to fans, who generously donated about $55,000 (around N90 million as of May 2024) on GoFundMe to cover legal fees.
Shortly after the donations, she controversially announced a vacation to Hawaii, prompting accusations of swindling from donors and the public. However, loyal fans continue to empathize with her situation, as reflected in the mix of supportive and positive comments on the video.
The song is not Korra’s first foray into cathartic musical themes. Previous releases like “We Gallant” and “Toxic Love” have resonated with fans for their emotional depth and themes of independence.
“Break Me Throwaway” has garnered around 260,000 views on YouTube, hit the link to watch the music video.
