American rapper Quavo and singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey have released their new single “Tough” after numerous teasers on their social media accounts. The song was released on July 3, along with a promotional music video showcasing the artists’ connecting with their southern roots.
“Tough” is a breezy song, accompanied by string guitars, that celebrates resilience in the face of life’s challenges and encourages drawing strength from one’s community. The song also pays tribute to Quavo’s nephew and former Migos bandmate, Takeoff, who sadly passed away in 2022.
Directed by Wyatt Spain Winfrey, the music video introduces Quavo and Del Rey as a happy couple who enjoy the outdoors: they sit outside a cottage while Del Rey plays the guitar, they take a drive through the neighborhood and interact with the locals and enjoy the sun in a field of tall grass where they almost share a kiss.
“Tough” marks a sonic departure from the trap and hip-hop sounds that catapulted Quavo, born Quavios Keyate Marshall, to fame as a member of the successful hip-hop group Migos. It also marks a new era for Del Rey who announced the release of a country album “Lasso” earlier in the year.
“Tough” is out on all streaming platforms. Watch the video here.
