In February 2024, Kcee made a shocking revelation: his hit song “Ojapiano” had tingled the ears of American music group OneRepublic, who wanted a remix.
“Ojapiano” was a ruler of its time. Aided by TikTok, the tune of the Igbo ọjà flute on the Amapiano-inspired song flew around the world in 2023, setting up Kcee for tantalizing opportunities and linkups from India all the way to America.
One of such, he revealed, was a surprise call from Colorado pop band, One Republic (if somehow they didn’t ring a bell, their chart-topping “I Ain’t Worried” from “Top Gun Maverick” certainly will). The band was so hooked that they offered to do an English remix of the track.
And as if that weren’t enough, KCee found himself in the studio with none other than Diplo—yes, HIM; the mastermind behind Major Lazer and LSD. Together they dined on some beats.
OneRepublic’s remix has since been released and immersed in his fifth studio album, “Mr. Versatile.” The fruits of the Diplo collaboration, on the other hand, are yet to come forth. Agreed, Kcee and Diplo may seem like an unexpected pairing, but so was OneRepublic—and that turned out to be a match made in musical heaven. Oh, and he’s (Kcee) in their forthcoming album.
So again, dear Kcee, we undying fans ask nicely, for the umpteenth time: Where is the Diplo remix?
