“Woman of the Hour,” a periodic crime thriller directed by American actress Anna Kendrick will be coming to theatres “soon,” after debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023.
The haunting film details how one woman, unfortunately, fell into the trap of a serial killer via a dating contest known as The Dating Game. The film is based on the true life story of how Rodney Alcala, serial killer, and registered sex offender, entered a dating contest at the height of his murder spree and used that as an avenue to kill young, impressionable women. At the time of Alcala entering the contest, he had murdered five women.
“Woman of the Hour” stars Kendrick, Daniel Zovatto, Nicolette Robinson, Tony Hale, Katherine Gallagher, Kelley Jakle, and Autumn Best.
“Woman of the Hour” first premiered on Sept. 8, 2023, at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). It received positive reviews from critics, with praise going to Kendrick’s directorial prowess despite being a first-timer. Kendrick earned a Directors to Watch award for the film at the 2024 Palm Springs Festival.
Netflix has acquired the international distribution rights for the film though it is unclear when the film will be debuting on the streaming service.
