Genesis Pictures and Silverbird Distribution have announced a partnership to co-distribute “The Waiter,” the latest film from comedian Ayo ‘AY’ Makun.

The action-comedy, produced by Corporate World Entertainment, is scheduled for release in December 2024.

In a joint statement, Nnaeto Orazulike of Genesis Pictures and Isabella Okechukwu of Silverbird Distribution commented on the collaboration.

Orazulike emphasised “the goal of reaching global audiences,” while Okechukwu stated that the partnership would “set a new benchmark for film distribution in Nigeria and create new revenue opportunities.”

The collaboration, referred to as the “Gensilver deal,” combines the market shares of Genesis and Silverbird. This alliance may impact the Nigerian film distribution landscape, which has long been dominated by FilmOne.

AY Makun expressed his views on the partnership, describing it as “a major step forward for the Nigerian film distribution industry.” Makun’s previous works include “30 Days in Atlanta” (2014), “A Trip to Jamaica” (2016), and “Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons” (2018).

“The Waiter” will be released alongside new films from other notable Nigerian filmmakers, including Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, and Mercy Aigbe, during the December holiday season.

According to the producers, the film’s plot blends elements of Nigerian entertainment with an exploration of the country’s socio-political issues.
