First Features Project, a production company dedicated to nurturing emerging Nigerian filmmakers, is set to release its sixth full-length feature film, “At Ease,” on Prime Video on October 16, 2024.
The film centers on an ex-soldier grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health issues as he seeks to rebuild his life after serving in war-torn Northern Nigeria. With the support of his wife, he must confront the physical, emotional, and cognitive injuries that threaten his future and sanity.
“At Ease” features a talented cast, including Asa’ah Samuel, Anee Icha, Eyiyemi Olivia Rogbinyin, Tony Ezimadu, Nadine Love, Odunayo Emmanuel, Rekiya Attah, and Keppy Ekpenyoung.
The First Features Project, founded by Native Filmworks and Michaelangelo Productions, is led by Nollywood filmmakers Steve Gukas and Dotun Olakunri. The initiative aims to empower and educate a new generation of Nigerian filmmakers by providing essential skills and resources to succeed in Nollywood.
Since its inception, the First Features Project has made significant strides in the film industry, beginning with the 2022 release of “Cake,” directed by Edesiri. This was followed by the romantic comedy “Love & Life” in 2023, featuring Nollywood veterans Rita Dominic, Nse Ikpe-Etim, and Chidi Mokeme.
Earlier this year, “It Blooms in June”, a coming-of-age story, garnered praise for its realistic portrayal of tragedy and growth.
Following that, the gritty action-drama “Kill Boro” was released, achieving notable success on Prime Video. The project’s fifth film, “A Father’s Love”, also released this year, resonated with audiences through its heartwarming depiction of kindness amidst poverty.
