Nollywood thriller “To Love and Protect” has been officially selected to screen at the prestigious London International Pan-African Film Festival (London PAFF) on October 23, 2024.
The festival, known for showcasing films produced in Africa and its diaspora, is a significant platform for African filmmakers. This marks another milestone for Nigerian cinema, with the film set to screen in the Fiction Feature Film category.
Directed by Olumuyiwa Aluko and produced by Mary Remmy Njoku of ROK Studios, “To Love and Protect” follows the gripping story of a pregnant woman who, after experiencing the trauma of pregnancy loss, goes into sudden labor and delivers at an unfamiliar hospital. Chaos erupts when she is told her newborn has died, but she insists the baby isn’t hers. Holding the hospital staff hostage, she demands her real child.
Tensions heighten as an undercover detective with incriminating evidence against a notorious gang leader is caught in the crossfire, with hitmen sent to retrieve the evidence.
Lead actors Linda Ejiofor and Ibrahim Suleiman, who are a real-life couple, took to Instagram to share their excitement about the film’s selection. “YOOOOOO!!! Our movie got selected for the London International Pan African Film Festival… Screening Date: 23rd October, 2024,” the pair posted, congratulating the cast and crew for their efforts.
Founded by Ne Kunda Nlaba, London PAFF is a key event that celebrates Pan-African cinema, drawing attention to films that tell important African stories. With “To Love and Protect” joining the lineup, Nollywood’s influence continues to expand on the international stage.
The screening will take place at West Norwood Picturehouse in London, offering audiences a chance to experience this intense and culturally rich film.
