“Queen Lateefah” has set a new standard in Nollywood, becoming the highest-grossing movie of 2024.
Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and produced by Wunmi Toriola, the romantic comedy has earned ₦297.7 million as of November 1, with ₦27.8 million coming in during the final week of October.
This milestone unseats “Ajosepo,” the previous record holder, which reached ₦257 million.
Opening with a strong ₦56.6 million in its first three days—43% higher than “Ajosepo’s” debut—The Nollywood Reporter predicted “Queen Lateefah” would show strong endurance at the box office, a forecast proven accurate when it hit ₦100 million within just a week.
Despite the buzz surrounding “The Uprising: Wives on Strike III” since its recent release, “Queen Lateefah” has maintained its lead, with the star-studded cast of Wunmi Toriola, Kunle Remi, Gbubemi Ejeye, and Nancy Isime drawing steady audiences.
As “Queen Lateefah” approaches the ₦300 million mark—a figure it may have surpassed by the time of this reading—Wunmi Toriola’s debut as a producer is proving to be one of Nollywood’s most significant successes this year.
