Two foreign movies, Sony’s “Venom: The Last Dance” and Amazon’s “Red One” currently top the Nigerian box office as of the November 8 to 11 weekend.
The Hollywood Christmas adventure film, “Red One,” posted a three-day opening of ₦29 million, taking the second spot from “The Uprising: Wives on Strike III”—which now sits at fifth with ₦8 million earned.
While “Red One’s” star power duo of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Chris Evans drew Nigerian audiences, it wasn’t enough to unseat Tom Hardy and “Venom: The Last Dance.” The Venom threequel grossed ₦34.1 million in its third weekend for a ₦247 haul—a 43.5% drop from the ₦60.3 million of the previous weekend.
However, the successes of both films will be short-lived as Ridley Scott’s epic, “Gladiator 2,” debuts soon.
Given the global love for the first film, the sequel is expected to dominate the market in its first few weeks.
