“28 Years Later” Opens With ₦13.3M in Nigeria, $60M Globally

Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later” has made a strong start at the Nigerian box office, opening with ₦13.3 million over the weekend of June 20–22, 2025 according to Nigerian Box Office tracker on X.

The horror sequel ranked fourth on the national chart, behind “Iyalode,” “Ballerina,” and “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” but was the highest debut of the weekend.

Internationally, the film grossed a total of $60 million in its opening weekend, with $30 million from North America and the remaining half from overseas markets. This includes $6.4 million in the United Kingdom, $2.7 million in Mexico, $1.7 million in Australia, $1.5 million in South Korea, $1.3 million in Germany, and $1.2 million in Spain.

Although it came second to “How to Train Your Dragon” in the North American market, “28 Years Later” outperformed both its predecessors; “28 Days Later” and “28 Weeks Later” whose debuts were $10.1 million and $9.8 million respectively.

The new installment was made on a reported $60 million budget and appears on track for profitability given its early box office momentum.
