“Avatar: Fire and Ash” Cracks Nigeria’s Box Office Top 10

James Cameron’s blockbuster ousts Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz’s Omo Ghetto: The Saga to reach the milestone.

Avatar: Fire and Ash has officially entered the history books at the Nigerian box office, becoming the tenth-highest grossing film of all time.

 

According to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the film earned ₦14.9 million in its seventh week in Nigerian cinemas. While this was not enough to place it in the week’s top five, Behind the Scenes still leads with ₦84.2 million, it was the highest-ranking foreign film on the charts.

 

More importantly, this pushed Avatar: Fire and Ash’s cumulative gross to ₦645.5 million, surpassing Omo Ghetto: The Saga’s ₦636 million.

 

 In the process, Cameron’s epic also leapfrogged Mufasa: The Lion King (₦623 million), previously the sixth-highest grossing foreign film in Nigeria.
