Marvel Studios’ latest blockbuster, “Captain America: Brave New World,” topped the Nigerian box office in its opening weekend.
According to Nigerian Box Office on X and Film One Entertainment, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Five entry grossed ₦137.5 Million across the three-day Valentine weekend.
This includes ₦121.7 million from the actual three-day opening and remainder from previews.
With such numbers, “Captain America: Brave New World” is not just the highest opening weekend of the still-young year, it ranks fifth amongst Hollywood films in the Nigerian market.
“Captain America: Brave New World” explores the new era of adamantium mining and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson taking up his wingsuit and the iconic vibranium shield as the official Captain America to save the day.
Thanks to the Valentine audiences’ boost and lack of competition from other Hollywood releases—although the indigenous “Reel Love” is trotting closely behind”—“Captain America: Brave New World” might be shaping up to be the highest-grossing Hollywood release in Nigeria since fellow MCU film, “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
Below are the biggest Hollywood openings in Nigeria
- “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”: ₦223 million
- “Avengers: Endgame” (2019): ₦189.5 million
- “Deadpool & Wolverine” (2024): ₦144.6 million
- “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (2022): ₦126 million
